Places & Things of Interest

First Monday Trade Days is not the only activity going on in Canton. It also holds the Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo and will host the Texas Western Swing Valentine Party in February.

Canton is home to Splash Kingdom, the largest water park in East Texas, located at the intersection of I-20 and FM 859 west of Canton.Canton also boasts a private Country Club with great golf course, swimming and dining and a state-ranked public golf course.  

The Community Band under the direction of Canton High School band director, Rob Toups, presents concerts during the year and performs at the Annual July 4th Parade. Following the parade is a Patriotic Program with military and veterans dressed out to give honor to those who fought to give us this nation and those who have protected it. As the sun sets for the day, the crowd gathers on the First Monday grounds to witness the spectacular fireworks display.
 

 

Another place of interest in Canton is the Plaza Museum that houses the state’s largest bell collection donated by Miss Virginia Bell, who traveled the world to collect her bells, along with many more interesting artifacts. Also visit the Blackwell House, which is the oldest house in Canton, built in 1874. Edgewood, about 10 miles from Canton, has the Heritage Park which houses many old buildings from their community.

If you like boating and fishing, you’re in luck in Canton. Eight lakes are easily accessible from Canton. They include Lake Canton, Lake Fork, Lake Tawakoni, Lake Holbrook, Cedar Creek Lake, Mill Creek Lake, Lake Athens and Lake Palestine. Canton’s Mill Creek is a tributary of the Sabine River. A 30-minute drive will take you to the Athens Fish Hatcheries.

For those who like fast thrills, Canton has an exciting Zip Line, boasting to be the longest zipline in Texas.

During the Christmas season, don’t miss the Festival of the Trees presented by the Canton Chamber of Commerce. The Plaza Museum will be filled with trees decorated by businesses and organizations in the city and are auctioned as a fund raiser for the Chamber.

In December, everyone gathers on the square to watch all the Christmas lights turned on. The Christmas Parade is held on the second Saturday night in December and is a beautiful sight for visitors and citizens alike!
 


 
Canton High School recently opened it's State of the Art Auditorium for performing arts.
